Jim Mawdsley (he/him) is the Principal Advisor Events, Culture Arts and Heritage @ Newcastle City Council

Previous roles included a 20 year stint at Generator (the music and Creative Digital Development agency) with 12 years as CEO where Jim spent a great deal of time navigating the North East music industry through the threat of Digital Disruption. Generator realised that many of the capabilities they had developed could be transferred to the Digital Sector, to which they now provide sector specialist key support and business growth services.

This work resulted in membership of various boards and bodies including the original DCMS Live Music Forum, Chair of the Music Development Association, ACE / DCMS Creative Development Fund Advisory Panel, Tech Sector Cluster Group and the NELEP Digital Strategy Advisory group.

Having started life as a live music promoter in the distant 1980’s Jim has run live music events ranging from 50 capacity bar gigs to 30,000 capacity festivals and included a 12 year stint as co-promoter of world renowned Dance brand Shindig and 13 years as Director of the Evolution Festival . Jim is also the Chair of the Association of Independent Festivals.
